1. What is 'globalisation'? Types and Impacts
'Globalisation' is a very important concept in our course and is reflected in many of the ideas that we have already encountered; from global governance and interconnectedness to universalism and soft power. In this lesson we will be focusing on it specifically and from the point of view of development, but don't forget to reinforce those connections as we progress.

2. Has Globalisation raised standards of living and improved Human Rights?
Given the wide range of negative impacts associated with globalisation, it has started to become a 'dirty word'. However, as we noted last lesson, it is very easy to forget that by many measures globalisation has actually improved matters considerably. This lesson, we take standards of living and Human Rights achievements as two examples.

Globalisation has obviously had a massive environmental impact. This is a huge question - we will only be dipping our toe here. Make sure you apply knowledge you have from other units and case studies too in your thinking.
